![]() Only if you get a virii which reeks havoc in your pc would i suggest reinstalling. You shouldn't be needing to reinstall windows every 6months. Invest into a cheap second hand ATX computer specifically for backing up. Invest into an external HDD for destination 2. You could have a backup folder on two different HDDs (destination 1 + 2) which is some sort of redundancy. How much data are you planning on backing up ? I would suggest having at least 2 different types of destinations for your backups in case anything were to happen. But i have irreplaceable family photos etc. Depending on how much you value your data, depends on the commitment your willing to take.įor example, i run raid10, with nightly backups to a headless server which then pushes to a cloud. Raid is not a backup solution, as you've probably read on multiple occasions. I'm not very familiar with the possibilities that exists, maybe i'm twisting it more than it should be, maybe there's a much simpler way to go about this, so I understand if I'm looking at this all wrong. But if the RAID and Kopia are enough, then I would keep my dispensable data on the 4th HDD. then I'd have the 4th HDD free, which I would like to utilize as an additional safety layer. and use Kopia to make backups of the RAID on a third HDD. So I'm thinking of using 2 of my HDDs as RAID 1. I also do a fresh Windows install every 6 months or so. I'd like it to be automatic, so files are up to date. So I'm looking for a Free/affordable solution, that is fairly easy to set up on windows. ![]() and other software like Syncthing, AOMEI and FreeFileSync. I have 4 HDDs (that used to be in my RAID), and I started reading about backup software like Duplicati, Duplicacy, Borg, Restic, and Kopia. Firstly, I don't have the luxury of having an off-site backup, nor cloud or a secondary PC. ![]() I've decided to have another layer of safety. ![]() After having a nightmare with RAID recovery on 2 occasions. ![]()
